Peggy Lou Eaton — UPDATED
Peggy Lou Eaton, 83, rural Mentone, died surrounded by her children at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022, at her residence in Mentone.
Peg was born Nov. 4, 1938, in Rochester, to the late Clarence and Cleo A. (Jones) Tinkey. She married Nov. 22, 1956, in the Burket United Methodist Church, to M. Garwin Eaton; he preceded her in death May 9, 2021.
She was a 1956 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. Over the years she held many positions in the Tippecanoe Valley School System. She retired from Valley as treasurer, after over 35 years. She had been a former member of the Psi Iota Xi and the Order of the Eastern Star. She also attended and volunteered at the Warsaw Community Church. She enjoyed scrapbooking, gardening and landscaping, decorating, quilting and spending time with her children and great-grandchildren. She loved watching her family in sporting events and was always proud to be a part of the Valley Family. She could be found on many Friday nights listening to the football game.
She is survived by her children, Kevin (Terri) Eaton, Claypool, Greg (Flo) Eaton, Morrisville, N..C.; Kelly (Jeff) Howard, Rochester and Stacy (Kenny) Johnson, Claypool; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister Shirley (Larry) Polk, Leesburg; and a brother, Merl (Linda) Tinkey, Akron.
Peg was preceded in death by her parents; husband Garwin; a great-grandson Issac; and brothers Richard John “Dickie” Tinkey and Norman L. Tinkey.
The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, 2022, at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the funeral service.
The interment will take place in the Palestine Cemetery, Palestine, next to her husband.
Visitation hours will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, at King Memorial Home, Mentone.
