WARSAW — After her daughter had gone to college, Andrea Stavedahl needed something to do to keep busy.

“I started repurposing furniture — simple repurpose, nothing extravagant — and then selling it on Facebook Marketplace,” she said. “And then in part of finding and locating furniture, I dove into ceramics, glassware and started my Etsy page and … so things over (a few) years fell together and here I am.”

Stavedahl opened her shop Bent Leg Antique Marketplace in January. The Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce had a ribbon-cutting for the business, located at 1621 W. Lake St., Warsaw, on Thursday, Sept. 22.

There’s plenty of glassware, signs and all manner of home goods for sale. Stavedahl said her shop contains items that are “vintage, modern, (or) repurposed.”

“So it’s a blend of the three, one because it gives an opportunity for anybody to find something, so again like I was saying earlier people see things, it reminds them, it takes them back to childhood or their grandparents,” she said.

Stavedahl shared the story of how one of her customers was able to take home an old mushroom salt and pepper shaker set that made him happy because it was similar to the one his grandmother had on the table for Thanksgiving.

“This is a place for people to come … and to leave just feeling good about themselves, their life,” she said.

She noted the name Bent Leg comes from the notion that “nothing is perfect,” including both antiques or people in general.

“People need to remember that we’re not perfect,” she said.

People can stop by 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Shopping is also available via Bent Leg’s Etsy page BentLegAntiques, with Stavedahl shipping items across the U.S.

Stavedahl said there’s a special drawing this week for in-store customers. She will draw a name each day for a $50 gift certificate from the store.
