Grace College To Host ‘That Armless Guy’ At Chapel Service
News Release
WINONA LAKE — Grace College will be hosting George Dennehy at an upcoming chapel service. Dennehy will lead the campus in worship and share his story in chapel at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18. The free chapel service is open to the public and will take place at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center, 610 Wooster Road, Winona Lake.
Born without any arms, Dennehy is capturing attention all over the world for his unique ability to sing and play music with his feet.
“We are excited to have George share his powerful testimony of hope with our students,” said Brent Mencarelli, dean of chapel and community life at Grace. “This year, our campus theme is ‘Hope,’ which comes from the book of Isaiah. I believe that as George shares his story and the many challenges he’s overcome, students will be encouraged, energized and inspired to keep their hope in Christ alone.”
Dennehy spent the first year of his life in a Romanian orphanage before he was adopted by a family in the U.S. He started his musical journey by learning to play the cello at the age of eight and advanced in classical music until he was able to play cello with regional orchestras. With the cello as his launching pad, he has taught himself guitar, electric bass and basic piano.
Dennehy gained worldwide attention after he posted a video of himself covering “Iris” by The Goo Goo Dolls. Dennehy’s video went viral, and he received media coverage all over the globe until The Goo Goo Dolls saw the video and loved it. They invited Dennehy to perform the song with them to a crowd of 7,000 fans.
Since then, his career has continued to take off. In 2013, Dennehy released “Have My Heart,” a CD of his original music, and in 2017, Dennehy received a standing ovation for his first TED Talk. CBS News also named his video one of the “Best Of The Year.” Today Dennehy travels the world full time sharing his story and his music.
