Dear Editor,

In preparing to run for the Wayne Township Trustee office, I studied every single statute in the Indiana State Code concerning Township Trustees.

I researched the concerns for the township that were stated by the incumbent trustee and township board members from the 2018 election. I met with community leaders in local government, political parties, and non-profits to discuss their concerns for the poor of the township and what their relationship with the current trustee and township board looked like.

I discovered an office of elected officials that do not understand their official roles. I discovered an office of elected officials that failed to address their own concerns for the office since being elected. I discovered an office of elected officials that have no apparent desire to engage with the public. I found an office that I am going to fix.

On day one, the office gets an email address and social media page (if anything forbids this, the office will have “unofficial” email and social media pages.) New and improved security measures get implemented. Every week from there, the entire email log and every single receipt for expenses gets posted publicly. The office becomes exponentially more accessible and transparent. The office will work hand-in-hand with the community to provide for everyone that needs help.

As a U.S. Marine, I know how to take a bad situation and fix it. My entire adult life has been spent serving others – as a Marine, at every job I’ve had, at my church, and as a volunteer with multiple organizations in the community.

I want to serve those that need the most help as the township trustee. I want to set the standard for transparency, accessibility, accountability, and stewardship for all government employees. Nothing about this is radical. Nothing about this is partisan. It’s about a government that serves to promote the general welfare as efficiently (with as few tax dollars) as possible.

Electing me will give the people of Wayne Township, Warsaw, Winona Lake, and all of Kosciusko County a view of what a government office SHOULD look like, no matter what party the office is held by. Vote Dugan Julian for Wayne Township Trustee.
