WARSAW — Michelle Puckett believes her years of county government experience will allow her to serve others well if she becomes the next Kosciusko County treasurer.
Puckett has filed for the GOP caucus to serve the remaining two years of Rhonda Helser’s term.
Helser is resigning as treasurer after being elected Kosciusko County auditor.
Puckett is term limited and is finishing her second term.
Puckett, who said she was born and raised in Warsaw, has worked for 23 years in county government, all within the auditor’s office. That includes her two terms as auditor and a stint as the chief deputy auditor from 2004 to 2015.
She said she has extensive financial experience from her time in county government. Puckett said running for treasurer has been a goal of hers for some time, with her getting to do it a few years earlier than expected due to Helser vacating her role.
Puckett said she’s maintained an open door policy as auditor and plans to continue that if chosen by Republican precinct committee members to be treasurer, noting she has a “heart for service.”
She said she’d be “very honored if I were to be caucused in.”
Puckett has been married to Jeff Puckett, a former Warsaw firefighter, for 26 years. They have three sons and a daughter, and Puckett notes they are all supportive of her decision to seek the treasurer’s position.
The caucus is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at the Kosciusko County Courthouse’s Old Courtroom. A caucus for Kosciusko County coroner will also be held at that time.
