Syracuse Public Library — Festive Fun Planned For Children
News Release
SYRACUSE — Children can now visit Syracuse Public Library’s letter writing station to pen letters to Santa Claus. The station includes everything children need to get started: crayons, stickers and a letter template. Once finished, pop the letter into the station’s little mailbox. The last date to write a letter is Friday, Dec. 16, so the letters have plenty of time to reach the North Pole.
Mark your calendars now for the snow globe craft at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13. Children will decorate the inside of mason jars to create their own unique snow globe. Plan to arrive early for this program since supplies are limited to 23 people. While making snow globes, enjoy holiday music, hot cocoa and cookies.
Children’s programming will go on hiatus for the holidays; however, there will be a special holiday storytime at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14. Children’s librarian Megan Daumen will read holiday classics, and there will also be hot cocoa and cookies.
Learn To Brew A Better Cup Of Coffee
The Syracuse Public Library will hold two new Fix-it Clinics centered on brewing a better cup of coffee. Adult services librarian Becky Brower will host two sessions: noon Monday, Dec. 12, or 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15. During both sessions, attendees will learn about coffee roasting and different brewing techniques. Of course, they will enjoy freshly brewed coffee, too.
This program will meet in the library’s downstairs meeting room. For information, contact Brower at [email protected].
Friends of the Library Coffee Social
The Friends of the Syracuse Public Library will hold a coffee social from 10:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Dec. 14. Come enjoy coffee from local coffee shop Brew City and socialize. Both regular and decaffeinated coffee will be served. During this event, Michelle Parker, SPL’s young adult services librarian, will share details about the “All Together Now” teen art contest and other young adult programs.
Tap Into Your Creative Side
Winter may be around the corner, but young adults are encouraged to breathe color and creativity into their lives. Come to Color and Chill from 4-5 p.m. every third Thursday — this month’s being Dec. 15 — in the Rosalyn Jones Room, which houses the library’s young adult collection. Amber Weber will play chill music while young adults color and enjoy provided snacks.
In partnership with North Webster Community Public Library, Syracuse Public Library is also holding the “All Together Now” teen art contest. Students in grades six through 12 can submit their artwork based on the theme, “All Together Now: Kindness, Unity, Friendship!” to either the North Webster Community Public Library or Syracuse Public Library until Friday, Dec. 23, for a chance to win prizes: first place, $50; second place, $25; and third place, $15. Contestants do not have to be library members. For information, visit rb.gy/6mgek9.
