WARSAW — Sealed bids for the T-hangar roof were opened during the Board of Aviation Commissioners meeting Tuesday, Dec. 13.
Warsaw Airport Manager Nick King told the board budget numbers he had been given were expected to be between $45,000-$50,000 for the roof replacement.
“I went out for quotes so I could get those numbers around for the November board meeting,” King said. “None of those numbers came in below $50,000, which meant we couldn’t go with any of the quotes we received because of state quote rules, so I solicited three companies to give us sealed quotes.”
King brought the sealed quotes to the meeting, and the quotes were opened by BOAC President Jay Rigdon.
King requested bids reflect a foam insulation barrier with a membrane roof because he thought that would be the most cost effective option. He also told companies if they wanted to tear the sheet metal off and put a new metal roof on, to be competitive in the bid they could submit that option.
The quotes included a bid of $58,900 from Bridgeport Homes; a bid of $111,000 for a membrane roof, with an alternate bid of $99,485 for a metal roof from Pro Time Metal Roofing; and a bid of $68,364 from Royalty Roofing.
Bids were taken under advisement. King requested president authorization to sign once they figure out which is the most qualified bid for the airport.
Rigdon said he would be comfortable with this on the condition the terms and conditions of the low bid comply with their request for proposal. If they choose to accept anything other than the lowest bid, Rigdon said, he would not be comfortable signing.
Motion was made and passed authorizing Rigdon to execute a contract with Bridgeport Homes, the lowest bid, once it has been determined this is a satisfactory bid.
In another matter, preparations are continuing for the Warsaw Municipal Airport’s runway power line project.
The project involves altering power lines east of the airport’s east-west runway.
The initial construction agreement was sent to the city attorney, King said, who did not have any additional comments to add. The agreement was then sent back to American Electric Power.
King brought the current agreement to Tuesday’s meeting and recommended giving authorization for Rigdon to sign the contract once the city attorney has approved it. This would allow AEP to begin ordering towers and parts and would expedite the process, rather than waiting until the January meeting.
Motion to accept the contract pending city attorney approval was passed.
The BOAC’s next meeting is at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Warsaw City Hall.
