WARSAW — A South Whitley man was recently arrested after allegedly hitting two police officers.

Dillon Michael Alma, 24, 8306 W. 300S, South Whitley, is charged with battery resulting in bodily injury to a public safety official and disarming a law enforcement officer, both level 5 felonies; resisting law enforcement resulting in injury, a level 6 felony; and resisting law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor.

On Oct. 19, 2022, Warsaw Police officers responded to a local hospital regarding Alma being verbally and physically aggressive with staff. During the incident, Alma punched a wall and cut his hand.

According to court documents, while hospital staff spoke with Alma about administering a shot to calm him down, Alma allegedly swung his hand and slapped a taser mounted on one of the officer’s bulletproof vests. Alma then hit two of the officers in the chest.

While officers attempted to help restrain Alma so hospital staff could administer a shot, Alma violently jerked his arms and legs. During this, one of the officers’ arms was pinned by a metal pole affixed to the hospital bed. The officer sustained a large bruise on the inside of his left forearm, and two small lacerations. The officer was treated at the hospital for his injuries.

Alma later attempted to remove one of the officer’s tasers from its holster.

Alma was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Jan. 5, with a $10,250 surety and cash bond.
