By Jeff Burbrink

ELKHART COUTY — The Wakarusa Produce Auction and Purdue Extension have teamed up to offer a meeting for area commercial produce growers on Friday, Feb. 10 at the produce auction. The auction is located at 65460 CR 9, east of Wakarusa.
The topics were selected by the growers themselves, so the program will be in tune with subjects our local growers are thinking about this winter.
The program starts at 9 a.m. with a growers panel. At 10 am, Dan Egel, Purdue Vegetable Disease Specialist, will talk about diseases of cucurbits, followed by a discussion on using fungicides to their highest potential.
After the noon lunch, Steve Meyers, Purdue Vegetable Weed Control expert, will talk about the latest developments in weed control methods. Jen Coleman, with the Indiana Board of Health, will then talk about the current health related regulations concerning vegetable growers. Our final speaker will be Jamie Bultemeier, an agronomist with A & L Great Lakes Laboratory, who will talk about the interpretation of soil test results.
Private Applicator Recertification credit will be available for $10. Otherwise, there is no cost to attend the meeting. Lunch will be provided by the Wakarusa Produce Auction. We do ask that you call us by Tuesday, Feb. 7 at (574) 533-0554 to help plan for the meal.
