WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested after allegedly battering a woman in front of two children.
Perry Odell Chavers Jr., 43, 43 Orchard Drive, Warsaw, is charged with domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of a crime, both class A misdemeanors.
On Jan. 15, a Warsaw Police officer responded to a domestic incident. The woman said she and Chavers had a verbal argument which turned into a physical altercation.
According to court documents, when the woman said she was going to call the police, Chavers took her cellphone from her and threw it to the ground, causing it to shatter on the front and back.
While attempting to grab her phone, Chavers allegedly pushed the woman from behind, causing her to fall to the ground on her right side. The officer noticed scratches and a bruise on the woman’s right arm, and a cut on her right hand. Two children were present when Chavers pushed the woman to the ground.
Chavers was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Feb. 18, with a $6,000 surety and cash bond.
