WARSAW — Four people were injured after a two-vehicle accident on US 30.
At 1:19 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle accident on East US 30, west of South CR 325E, Warsaw.
According to a KCSO accident report, Gary L. Berger, 77, Plymouth, was traveling west on East US 30 in a white 2014 Ford Econoline van. Berger told deputies three vehicles were crossing US 30 from the south. The first two vehicles crossed with plenty of room, but the third vehicle crossed the westbound lane into the path of Berger’s vehicle, resulting in a collision.
This third vehicle was a black 2001 GMC Yukon driven by Evelyn A. Powers, 45, Pierceton. Berger’s vehicle spun around and backed into a guardrail near the intersection. Powers’ Yukon went over a guardrail and rolled down a large hill.
Powers was partially trapped in the driver’s seat and had to be extricated from the vehicle. One passenger in the Yukon, Ethen R. Gardner, 21, Pierceton, was ejected from the vehicle and found in the grass about 10 yards from the driver’s door. A second passenger in the Yukon, Shawnee J. Smalley, 23, Pierceton, was found in the rear trunk area. Both Gardner and Smalley were not wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
Powers was taken to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne for facial pain. Berger was taken to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne for chest pain.
Gardner and Smalley were both flown from the scene to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. Gardner had minor facial injuries and Smalley had general complaints of pain.
Damages are estimated over $50,000.
