Barbara Ann Sledge — UPDATED
Barbara A. Sledge, known to many as “Barb,” a resident of Leesburg, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana at the age of 78.
Born on Jan, 10, 1945 in Auburn, she was the daughter of Donald and Maxine (Scott) Wiley. On Oct, 25, 1963, she married Douglas Sledge.
Kindhearted, Barb was greatly involved in her community. She was always ahead of the curve with breaking news and, alongside her sister, they lovingly earned the nickname “Snoop Sisters.” She connected with and supported her neighborhood through her creation and leadership of the Barbee Lake’s Neighborhood Watch Facebook Group. When her daughter was young, she was active in the PTO at the North Webster Elementary School. Barb was a great supporter of the March of Dimes and other charities, especially if they supported the youth and kept money locally. She also liked to dance and, in her younger years helped her family to run their dance hall.
Married to Douglas Sledge on Oct, 25, 1963, Barb will be deeply missed by her husband of 59 years. In addition she will be missed by daughter, Crystal (Chris) Bake of Rochester; grandchildren, Angel (fiancé Jonathan Wiesinger) Howe of Mishawaka and Christopher Bake of Rochester; stepgranddaughter Gabby Snyder of Rochester; great-granddaughter, Jade Wiesinger; sister, Victoria (Jeff) Shepherd of Barbee Lakes; and brothers, William (Sheila) Wiley of Victoria, Texas and Scott (Deb) Wiley of Tippecanoe Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Sharon Rowe and Donald Wiley Jr.
Titus Funeral Home of North Webster is entrusted with Barb’s care. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home, 8056 E 500 N, North Webster, from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 18. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at the North Webster funeral home with Pastor Jeff Pfeiffer officiating. A burial will immediately follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
