Early Morning Fire Destroys Sidney Area Home

SIDNEY — A wood-frame single family home was destroyed early Saturday morning northeast of Sidney.
Sidney Fire Department was called out at 4:55 a.m. after a passing motorist noticed a fire at 7865 E. 800S, South Whitley. However, when the fire was discovered, the home was fully engulfed in flames and a total loss.
No one was at the residence at the time of the fire.
Sidney Fire Chief Kevin Wagoner reported when the first truck arrived, at 5:01 a.m., the house had already burned to the ground. Only a woodburning stove, possibly a washer or dryer and part of the main floor, over a partial basement, remained.
South Whitley and Pierceton fire departments were called in to assist with tanker and manpower.
According to the county Beacon Mapping system and county auditor’s office, the 816 square foot home is owned by May Mae and Ku Pow JT, Fort Wayne.
Firefighters were at the scene until 6:46 a.m.
