Firefighters Still At Syracuse Street Fire In Milford

MILFORD — Firefighters from Milford, New Paris, Plain Township and Turkey Creek Fire Territory remain at the scene of a building fire at 203 E. Syracuse St., Milford.
An excavator is being brought in to collapse the brick building.
Milford Fire Department received the call at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, May 10.
Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the building when firefighters arrived. A full assist was called from the three surrounding fire departments.
Two fire hydrants were utilized to supply trucks with necessary water. One hydrant was at the corner of Syracuse and James streets, across from the fire. The other hydrant was approximately 1,000 feet away at James and Williams streets.
The fire did cause the building’s roof to collapse.
Workers, who were inside the building when the fire was reported, were seen quickly trying to salvage products and equipment. Some items were salvaged.
Initial reports is the building, listed as being owned by Eric J. and Marcia A. Bechtel, contained fiberglas.
