AKRON — Issues with pool work have slowed down the Tippecanoe Valley High School construction project somewhat.
At its public monthly work session on Thursday, May 11, the Tippecanoe Valley School Board heard that news from The Skillman Corp. Project Manager Scott Rogers. The Skillman Corp. is the construction management company for the project.
Rogers said soon he would be able to give the board a new timeline for finishing the pool work.
Other work that crews have done in the last month on the project consist of: “pouring footings and foundations for the additions, finishing storm and sanitary lines, completing demolition of fixtures and walls within pool locker rooms,” according to written material Rogers provided to board members.
Plans for the next month outlined in the written material include: “completing the footings and foundations for locker room additions, continue working on those around the auditorium addition and starting to put in interior walls within the locker room renovations.”
In other business, the board:
- Heard a reminder that Burket Educational Center’s graduation is set for 10 a.m. Thursday, May 18, in the school’s gymnasium.
- Heard that TVHS’ graduation is 2:45 p.m. Sunday, June 4, preceded by the baccalaureate service at 2 p.m.
- Heard that the board would initially consider changes to student and athletic handbooks at its regular meeting, set to start at 6 p.m. Monday, May 15, at Akron Elementary School. School principals are to present on them, for the board to vote on later. Tippecanoe Valley Middle School Principal Scott Backus came to Thursday’s meeting though since he has a scheduling conflict Monday. Backus said one of the biggest changes is giving athletes only a grace period at the beginning of the school year regarding their eligibility for sports due to grades instead of several.
