UPDATE: Motorcyclist Identified In Warsaw Fatal Crash
Staff Report
WARSAW — The motorcyclist killed in a wreck Thursday afternoon, May 18, in Warsaw has been identified.
According to a Warsaw Police Department accident report, Kevin L. Howard, 30, Warsaw, died due to his injuries sustained in the crash, which happened shortly after 3 p.m. at North Detroit Street (SR 15) and Anchorage Road.
As laid out in the report, a witness told police he saw Howard traveling northbound “really fast” on his gray 2019 Harley-Davidson FXDR and slam into a white 2018 Lexus GX driven by Barbara S. Horton, 54, Winona Lake.
A second witness said Horton’s vehicle had been traveling southbound on North Detroit Street. That witness said Horton’s vehicle was in the left turn lane and turning onto Anchorage Road. The witness said Howard’s motorcycle was northbound on North Detroit Street and his vehicle hit Horton’s.
Another witness said she thought Howard’s vehicle was traveling faster than 30 mph. She said Howard’s vehicle was in the intersection when the light was yellow. At that time, Horton’s vehicle was turning eastbound onto Anchorage Road from Detroit Street. Both vehicles then collided.
A fourth witness said the light had just turned yellow for Horton’s vehicle, which was southbound. She thought Howard’s northbound vehicle was going to stop. Horton’s vehicle then pulled into the intersection to make a left-hand turn onto Anchorage Road, and Howard’s vehicle didn’t stop. She thought the light was yellow for both vehicles at the time of the crash.
Horton said she didn’t remember the crash. She was taken to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, having minor bleeding on her face and injuries to her head, back and arms.
Howard had been wearing a helmet, but it came off during the crash.
Damage is estimated up to $25,000.
