Burning Grass Fire Erupts, Destroys Home, Trailer, Camper And More

CROMWELL — Six fire departments converged on 9661 N. Miami Lane, Cromwell, in Papakeechie Estates, after a vegetation fire spread to a home, mobile home, camper and more.
Turkey Creek Fire Territory received the call at approximately 1:55 p.m. Friday, June 2, when grass being burned caught a house on fire.
Smoke from the fire, which spread into a wooded area and other items, could be seen just on the east side of Milford.
Manpower, due to the heat, along with tanker assistance was called from Tippecanoe Township Fire Territory, Sparta, Van Buren, Benton and Plain township fire departments. Turkey Creek, Tippecanoe Township Paramedics and New Paris EMS also responded.
When the fire spread, it caught a mobile home, camper, lumber and other vegetation on fire, as well as other unknown objects.
An excavator was brought to the scene to help put out hotspots.
The home and property, according to county records is owned by Stanley and Marlene Hall.
Tankers were refilling at one of the condominiums in the area.
