Claypool Sesquicentennial Hosts Parade, Car Show And More

CLAYPOOL — The Claypool Sesquicentennial celebrated 150 years with a two-day event June 16 and 17. This event brought all ages out to celebrate the anniversary with a lively parade with over 33 participants, a car show and more.
The Claypool Sesquicentennial honored Janet Warren and Marge Warren as the Parade Marshals during the parade. However, Parade Marshal, Marge Warren, was not able to participate in the celebration. In her place, Avis Gunter, the parade marshal from last year’s festival, took on the role.
The judges selected to decide the winners of the parade were Liz Heiman and Kathy Hammon.
Winners were divided up by the following categories:
- Best of Parade: Claypool Mobile Home Park; Nelson’s Covered Wagon.
- Antique Tractor: 1937 John Deere, Heckaman.
- Antique Car or Truck: Willy’s Jeep.
- Commercial: Echoes of the Past.
- Organization or Service Club: Claypool United Methodist Church.
- Novelty Vehicle: 1890 Pumper, Claypool.
- Parade Theme: 4-H Haywagon of Claypool.
- Miscellaneous: Leesburg 1929 Chevy Firetruck.
The following Departments were also involved in the parade:
- Claypool Police Department.
- The Kosciusko County Sheriffs Office.
- Indiana State Police.
- Silver Lake Police Department.
- Claypool Fire Department.
- Silver Lake Fire Department.
- Jackson Township Fire Rescue.
- Lake Township Fire Department.
- Leesburg 1929 Firetruck.
- Kosciusko County Highway Department.
In the time between the parade and the car show, people were seen organizing for other events later on in the day and grabbing a bite to eat.
The car show brought both old and new vehicles for spectators to browse.
