Goshen Seeing Inappropriate Usage Of New Recycling Center
News Release
GOSHEN — The city of Goshen is seeing inappropriate usage of its new recycling center.
According to a Facebook post on the city’s page, “based on observations, business operations are bringing large volumes of paperboard to the site and consuming volume otherwise usable by the general public. For commercial operations with recycling needs, they need to be contracting for a private recycling container or dumpster.”
The city opened the site at 802 N. Indiana Ave. following the closure of Elkhart County’s five recycling sites in Goshen city limits. These sites went away due to misuse, similar to what Kosciusko County saw with its remote drop-off sites prior to their closure at the end of 2022.
Goshen’s city Facebook page further states enforcement and fines for the recycling site have not been implemented, but “are on the horizon.”
“The city staff wants this site to work and we need community members to be partners in making this work,” read the post. “This means dropping material off responsibly and if something is outside the container, take a moment to help the lost material find its way into the container.”
