WARSAW — A Ligonier man was recently arrested for driving under the influence and wrecking a vehicle, which resulted in injury to a passenger.
Jacob Daniel Roatcap, 35, 712 N. Cavin St., Ligonier, is charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, a level 5 felony; and operating a vehicle as a habitual traffic violator, a level 6 felony.
On June 2, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a single-vehicle accident on South County Farm Road, near East CR 350S, Warsaw. Upon arrival at the scene, the deputy saw a passenger, Caleb L. Roatcap, laying next to the vehicle with apparent serious injuries. Jacob was standing behind the vehicle with minor injuries.
According to court documents, Jacob said he was driving when he swerved his vehicle after seeing something in the roadway. The deputy noticed Jacob was exhibiting signs of intoxication and was taken to Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital for a blood draw.
On June 13, the deputy spoke with Caleb, who said he sustained a broken nose and two broken eye sockets from the crash.
At the time of the accident, Jacob’s driving privileges were suspended through his designation as a habitual traffic violator. The suspension has been effective since December 2018.
Jacob has a prior conviction for operating a vehicle while intoxicated in Kosciusko County in October 2016.
Jacob was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on June 27, with a $10,250 surety and cash bond.
