Salamonie Construction Work Almost Finished
News Release
According the the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the construction work at Salamonie Lake is almost finished. The Salamonie Lake Tailwater Recreation Area has been closed since March 4, 2021.
The construction project is two-fold: prevent further erosion in the channel and build a service road for maintenance needs.
Although the service road will not open for public vehicles, it will be open for pedestrians and bicyclists. The public will be able to access the road from Hominy Ridge.
The closure also included the shelter areas and restrooms, and the access to the tailwater from Hominy Ridge. There will be no fishing in the tailwater.
Contractors have been working on the retreat channel to hopefully prevent or eliminate any future erosion.
This construction project was planned and routine, and did not hurt the function of the dam. The dam is safe and functioning correctly.
