BURKET – Burket is looking for a new street superintendent.
Town Council President Bill Rayburn said at the town council meeting Thursday, July 13, that former Superintendent James Marshall said due to job responsibilities at his other job, his last day was June 30.
Rayburn said they “hate to see him go.”
The council hasn’t published the job posting yet.
Rayburn said Councilwoman Lena Ball was talking with Silver Lake Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley and was told, if need be, the town could employ someone who resides outside of the town limits for the position.
Rayburn said the council will take the open position under advisement and see if anyone is interested in the job.
Councilwoman Cindy Warstler said there was no reason why the council couldn’t help out with the job responsibilities in the meantime.
In other business, the council:
• Heard a complaint of holes near the railroad tracks. Since that is railroad property, Rayburn said the council will have to contact the railroad company or someone else to fix the issue.
• Heard two property violation letters were sent out regarding yard grass and debris.
For the property at 216 W. Broadway St., Rayburn said a contractor has been contacted to clean up the property for $650.
For the property at 116 W. Broadway St., a contractor quoted the town $300 to clean up the property. Rayburn said he asked the contractor to hold off on cleaning up the property for the moment so the town can send the property owners one more letter to make sure they are notified.
• Heard from Rayburn he has not heard any updates on road paving in town. The last update he was given by Phend & Brown was road paving would start between mid-July to Aug. 1. He said he’ll have to reach out to Phend & Brown.
