PIERCETON — Myra Mast said her “goal in life is to use (her) skills to serve and make a difference wherever (she is).”
This goal has motivated her to seek a second term as Pierceton clerk-treasurer.
Mast is running in the 2023 election against one other candidate, Jerry Kreger. As both are Republicans, a town convention will be held at a yet-to-be-determined date in which the public may vote to determine the winner. No regular town election will be held.
Mast notes there’s several goals she wants to accomplish if reelected.
“I have projects that I am working on to bring the office to compliance under the State Board of Accounts guidelines that I would like to complete, for example, the written internal controls,” she said. “Also, I have seen the value in many voices such as the ideas that stemmed from the pathway committees working with the (Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs) HELP (initiative) and believe there are many more residents who would like to be involved in serving the town by volunteering. I would like to create ways that could make residents feel comfortable in sharing their talents and ideas to benefit the town.”
Mast mentioned she’s qualified for another four years as clerk-treasurer due to both her incumbency and past work experience.
“I have worked with contracts in several positions,” she said. “I had 20 years of experience with accounts receivable and about five years with accounts payable prior to the clerk-treasurer position. I held a management position in retail. I have been the only office staff member in some situations, wearing many hats, which has helped me become a problem solver.”
“I still have so much more to offer the Town of Pierceton and its residents and would be honored to continue serving in this capacity for four more years,” she said.
Mast has lived in the Pierceton area since 1994, moving into the town in 2017.
She and her husband Kevin Mast, a lifetime Pierceton resident, marked their 29th anniversary in April. Mast has three children and five grandchildren, with the latter ranging in age from 6 to 16.
“I have enjoyed being a part of the Pierceton community in making a difference in this small town,” she added, mentioning being involved with the town’s Christmas decorations committee and chamber of commerce.
“The Christmas decorations committee has changed the look of Christmas in Pierceton and begun new traditions with the parade and lighting ceremony. Working with the Pierceton Chamber has opened my eyes to what it takes to plan events that add life to businesses and the town in whole,” she said. “No matter the outcome of the upcoming election, I look forward to continuing my involvement with these and other town-related opportunities.”
