Tyson Plant Closure In Cordyn To Affect 368 Workers
News Release
More details have been released about the impact of Tyson Foods’ announcement that they will be closing their Cordyn plant, along with three others.
Tyson said in a notice to the sate that the closure of the southern Indiana plant could leave 368 workers unemployed.
The company said earlier this week that it is closing these plants in order to lower costs, having already closed corporate headquarters in Chicago and South Dakota last year and concentrated the workforce in its home state of Arkansas.
Production will end at the Cordyn plant Friday, March 1, 2024. The company said it is still trying to determine if any positions will still be needed after that to assist with closing the operation.
Some of the workers being affected are represented by the United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local 227.
Tyson said employees currently receiving benefits will not see any changes to those benefits and will be paid for any unused vacation time through March 1. A Tyson spokesperson also said that affected workers are encouraged to apply for other open positions in the company and relocation benefits will be given when applicable.
Three other chicken processing plants are set to close in North Little Rock, Arkansas; Dexter, Missouri and Noel, Missouri.
