WARSAW — The Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District approved a proposal regarding cost reductions for the drop-off of electronics, latex paint, and household hazardous waste items.
KCSWMD Executive Director Tom Ganser presented the proposal to the district’s board members during an Aug. 15 meeting. For electronic items, residents will now be charged 10 cents per pound, which is a decrease from 17 cents.
With latex-based paint, Ganser said he’d like to not charge anyone for dropping it off at the depot’s warehouse.
“We have about 40 to 50 people a day coming through looking for (latex) paint,” said Ganser. “I believe we’re hitting the right means to draw in some more of this stuff.”
Ganser also said the sale of land where the former Syracuse recycling drop-off site was located should hopefully be closed out in mid-September. The land is being sold to the Wawasee Community School Corporation.
The district’s next meeting is at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12.
