Grose Resigns As Board Of Works Member

WARSAW — Jeff Grose announced his resignation from the Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety effective Friday, Sept. 1, at the board’s meeting on Friday, Aug. 18.
Grose explained this resignation was due to a conflict with his teaching schedule. His resignation has been accepted by Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer. Thallemer has appointed Warsaw City Councilwoman Diane Quance to finish Quance’s term through the end of the year.
At the end of the meeting Grose closed by saying, “Thank you to the department heads and everyone else for putting up with me for the last twelve years, often running in and out of here due to teaching at the school.”
“It has been an absolute privilege to have served as a council representative on the Board of Works for 12 years,” he continued.
On Friday, the board heard bids from six different companies for two concrete sidewalk projects located on Center Street from Grant Street to Colfax Street and Bronson Street from Jefferson Street to Center Street.
The following bids were placed:
- Ultimate Edge placed a bid for the Center Street from Grant to Colfax project for $26,647.50. They also placed a bid on the Bronson Street project for $83,994.
- S&S Concrete and Excavating placed a bid on only the Center Street project for $33,765.
- G&G Hauling & Excavating placed a bid of $55,023.37 for the Center Street project and $149,559.98 for the Bronson Street project.
- Milestone Contractor placed a bid of $56,286 on the Center Street project. They also placed a bid of $163,588 for the Bronson Street project.
- Phend and Brown placed bids of $54,520 for Center Street and $136,000 for Bronson Street.
- SiteWorx Services LLC placed a bid of $25,733 for the Center Street project and $58,748 for Bronson Street.
With the recommendation of Warsaw City Engineer Aaron Ott and Street Department Superintendent Dustin Dillon, the board awarded both projects to SiteWorx Services LLC.
The Warsaw alley improvement project from Miami Street to Union Street received one bid at the meeting.
G&G Hauling placed a bid on the project quoting Union Street at $108,778.07, the alley at $172,340.41 and an alternate bid for Miami Street at $112,902.68. The total for the base bid came to $281,118.48 and including the alternate bid would bring the total to $384,021.16.
At the recommendation of Ott, the board moved to table the bid for further advisement.
In other business, the board:
- Approved a street closure from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, on Market Street from Washington Street to the alley for the HopLore Oktoberfest event.
- Approved a street closure from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, on Buffalo Street from Main Street to Center Street for the Kettleheads Brewfest.
- Approved a street closure from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, on Indiana Street from Center Street to Fort Wayne Street for the Lincolnway Cubmobile event.
- Amended Warsaw’s facade grant agreement with Main Street Warsaw, raising the monetary amount from $25,000 to $40,000.
- Approved an amendment between the wastewater utility and Wessler Engineering to increase on-call engineering services with $10,000 more from $30,000 to $40,000.
