IU Nursing School Sees Record Enrollment
News Release
INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana University School of Nursing has welcomed their largest new class of future RNs.
The undergraduate bachelor of science program has 381 registered students this fall across IU’s campuses. IU has campuses in Bloomington, Indianapolis and Fort Wayne. This number of students is the largest the school has seen in its 109-year existence.
Of the 381 students, 120 are based in Bloomington, 169 in Indianapolis and 92 in Fort Wayne. IU has reported 1,335 students are returning to the nursing program as well.
The program has three tracks: traditional, accelerated and RN-to-BSN Degree Completion. In the RN-to-BSN track, nurses with a two-year degree can become a BSN.
This large class size is a sigh of relief for the country, as we are currently seeing a shortage of nurses. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing estimates the nurse shortage will worsen as the baby boomer generation retire and require care.
