GOSHEN — After a long day of working, going to school or other responsibilities we may have on our plate, it seems like a chore to cook a meal for either ourselves or our family. In many cases, we feel it is easier to stop at a fast-food restaurant or order delivery. However, it is likely that these foods are not as healthy as a home-cooked meal and probably cost twice as much.
There are plenty of ways to make your life a little easier when it comes to cooking during the week. When we plan ahead by getting groceries we will need throughout the week, it saves a tremendous amount of time and effort from having to stop at the
store several times a week. Make things you enjoy eating when dining out and learn how to make them in a healthier way. Switch out heavy cooking products such as lard, vegetable oil and heavy breading. Instead, switch to avocado oils, herbs and spices, and nutritional yeast. By avoiding heavy cooking products, you are already taking that first step to healthier cooking.
It’s OK to switch things up so that your cooking process is easier and not as strenuous. Steaming, grilling, air frying and roasting adds a lot of flavors to a meal with little to no effort. Since you know what works best for you and your family, take the time to plan out things you like to eat. Make items ahead of time if you can. This will help save time tremendously.
