BOURBON — A Rochester woman was recently arrested for allegedly battering a child.
Stacy Joan Syndram, 31, 7835 N. 550E, Rochester, is charged with domestic battery resulting in bodily injury to a person under 14 years of age, a level 5 felony; and neglect of a dependent, a level 6 felony.
On Aug. 28, an Indiana State Police trooper responded to Triton Elementary School in Bourbon regarding a battery against a child. The battery occurred in Fulton County.
According to court documents, the child initially told school staff they were injured after falling off a bicycle. However, when staff became suspicious of their injuries, the child said Syndram hit them multiple times.
The child had visible bruising on the right side of their cheek, a gash below their lip, bruising inside their ear, and an abrasion above their right eye. The trooper determined the child’s injuries were consistent with someone who had been in an altercation.
In an interview, the child said Syndram hit them three times with a closed fist. They also said they were thrown to the ground and kicked. During the interview, the child lifted their shirt and revealed a five-inch bruise across the left side of their ribs.
Syndram said she was attempting to control the child by placing them in a bear hug. She told the trooper she had no explanation for the child’s significant injuries.
Syndram was booked in the Fulton County Jail on Aug. 28.
