Northern Indiana Open Houses Scheduled For Workers Who’ve Been Laid Off

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Department of Workforce Development is hosting several Northern Indiana events for workers who have experienced layoffs.
Those people may be eligible for free training and additional lifetime employment benefits even if they are currently working. Federal funds are available for qualifying workers through the Trade Adjustment Assistance program. Benefits include training and job search assistance.
At the events, TAA case managers are available to meet with workers impacted and determine eligibility. If eligible, workers may begin training to earn a post-secondary credential, associate degree or higher, at no cost to the worker.
Events are 2-6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, at the Nappanee Public Library, 157 N. Main St., in Meeting Room 1; 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at the St. Joseph County Public Library – Centre Branch, 1150 E. Kern Road, South Bend, in the Alligator Room; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Elkhart Public Library, 300 S. Second St., in the Orange/Gray Room.
