Staff Report
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested for allegedly pushing a woman while in the presence of three children.
Rex Warren Smith, 28, 124 Lakeland Drive, Warsaw, is charged with domestic battery with a child under 16 present and domestic battery with a prior sentence enhancement, both level 6 felonies; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
On Sept. 16, a Warsaw Police officer responded to a domestic complaint at a residence. A woman said she and Smith had a verbal argument which turned physical.
According to court documents, the woman said she was attempting to retrieve a child Smith was holding when Smith allegedly pushed her into a wall, causing her to hit her head. Smith then left the location.
There were no visible bumps or marks on the woman’s head. Three children were present in the home during the incident.
In a phone call with the officer, Smith said he went to a friend’s house to cool off after the incident. He said the situation escalated and he lost his temper when he pushed the woman.
Smith has a prior conviction for domestic battery in Tippecanoe County in July 2019.
Smith was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Sept. 20, with a $6,000 surety and cash bond.
