News Release
LARWILL — The Whitko Community Schools system has named Students of the Month for the month of October.
Cassidy Skinner
Whitko Senior High’s Student of the Month is junior Cassidy Skinner.
“I have Cassidy Skinner in my intro 2D art class for the first time this semester,” said teacher Daniel Malicki. “Cassidy is generally pretty quiet in class, one might not even know she is in the room, although I wouldn’t consider Cassidy a typical intro student. She leads by example and not words. She lets her art do the talking for her. Her artistic abilities were evident from the first week of school.
“This girl is very talented in art. Her finished projects are heads above the rest of her intro classmates. The typical reaction people give when they see Cassidy’s artwork are oohs and ahhs. People now know who Cassidy is in our art class and they may not have known of her [otherwise]. Despite Cassidy’s natural artistic ability, her continuous pursuit of excellence is evident and she strives to challenge herself to improve. She welcomes each assignment in class with a positive mindset. Even though she is naturally talented, she shows that one still has to work hard to accomplish their goals. This is why I chose Cassidy Skinner for Student of the Month.”
Carter Imhof
Whitko Junior High’s Student of the Month is Carter Imhof.
Eighth-grade teacher Mike Hanback nominated Carter saying, “Carter is a good student and a willing participant in class. He works hard, does what he is asked and produces quality products as a part of his education. As good a student as he is, Carter is also an athlete. He has a good sense of humor, a good friend base and a super-positive attitude about school.”
Angelica Izaguirre
Whitko Career Academy’s Student of the Month is freshman Angelica Izaguirre.
Angelica was nominated by teacher Cassandra Penrod. “Every day Angelica comes into my class, she has a smile on her face,” Mrs. Penrod said. “She puts forth her full effort no matter what we are doing that day. From engaged discussion to detailed project work, because of her work ethic she is easily one of the top students in my class.”
Malori Tackitt
South Whitley Elementary School’s Student of the Month is Malori Tackett.
“Malori is a team player, she’s caring and kind to her peers, she uses initiative to get things done, and she is always respectful to her teachers. Malori is a team player. She listens to ideas from her teammates. She is a leader, not a boss, so she leads by example. She makes smart choices to lead her classmates on a daily basis. Her peers appreciate her and they enjoy spending time with her. I often see Malori sharing candy with her peers and she has many times saved my morning by bringing me a Rice Krispies treat. She spreads her kindness around our grade level daily. She uses initiative and she is an advocate for herself each day. She comes to school to get her work done and she likes to learn new things. Lastly, I so appreciate how respectful she is to me and other teachers in our school,” wrote nominating teacher Bill Rhodes of his sixth-grader.
Rayna Landrigan
Pierceton Elementary School’s Student of the Month is Rayna Landrigan.
First-grade teacher Trenton Osborn nominated Rayna. “Rayna embodies what it means to be a Whitko Wildcat each day that she enters the classroom. She has a welcoming, warm smile for everyone and is not shy to give a heartfelt hug to her friends and teachers. She puts her best effort into everything that she does. Rayna is always on task, and once she completes the task at hand, she is ready and willing to assist her classmates in also getting their tasks completed. Rayna is kind, respectful, open minded and has a love for life that is contagious to everyone around her. I cannot think of a person more deserving of Student of the Month than Rayna Landrigan.”
