Goshen High School To Hold 100 Year Anniversary Celebration
News Release
Goshen High School will hold a celebration for its 100-year anniversary during the home football game Friday, Oct. 13.
The school opened its doors on Sept. 17, 1923. Before that, students were being taught in an over-filled school building on Madison Street, with classes spilling out into the hallways.
Superintendent John Foreman asked students in the advanced mechanical drawing class to find the center of town based on population and that’s where the new school was built, with Foreman overseeing construction. In 1924, the Goshen High School’s new football field was named Foreman Field after him.
The Goshen Historical society will have a tent at the football game. More information and pamphlets will be available with QR codes for a full history of Goshen High School and Goshen Community Schools.
There will be a private celebration for honored guests and donors, beginning at 5:15 p.m. with a private tour of the school led by principal Cathy DeMeyer.
The Goshen High School orchestra will perform at the overhead door of the music wing at 6 p.m. Members of the Goshen Community Schools Board of Trustees, as well as high school and district administrators will be on-site to greet guests and donors.
At 6:30 p.m. there will be a buffet provided by Nelson’s.
At 6:50 the band will perform the school songs and accompany the choir in the National Anthem.
The football game begins at 7 p.m. At half-time, the GSC Foundation will give a short presentation and ribbon cutting, followed by a GridIron Club drawing for an RV and a marching band program.
