South Shore Line To Make First Commercial Trip On New Track This Week
News Release
CHESTERTON — The South Shore Line will make its first commercial trip on its new track this week.
The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District announced Friday that the trains will start travel in Michigan City to Dune Park track starting today, Wednesday, Oct. 18.
Construction began in 2021 to re-conform existing track and to construct a secondary line between the nearly 20 mile stretch which connects Gary and Michigan City in an attempt to cut down commuting times by almost 20 minutes.
The new tracks include safety features including high-level platforms.
