Kosciusko REMC Helps Ryan’s Case For Smiles For Community Day
News Release
WARSAW — Indiana’s electric cooperatives hosted their annual Cooperative Community Day on Friday, Oct. 13.
The initiative provides electric cooperatives the opportunity to use their time, skills and expertise to make a positive impact throughout the state of Indiana. This year, Kosciusko County REMC joined more than 20 other Indiana electric cooperatives in addressing a community need with a special volunteer project.
Kosciusko REMC partnered with Ryan’s Case for Smiles, a nonprofit organization providing unique, whimsical pillowcases to children with illnesses.
“We knew we wanted to do something special with Ryan’s Case for Smiles after co-coordinator Shannon Jenks appeared as a guest on our podcast, Live Wire,” said Andrea Melton, marketing and communications specialist.
“Our employees were deeply touched by the organization’s story,” Melton said.
It was decided that a “pressing party” would be a productive way to help the organization. Kosciusko REMC employees worked in shifts over the course of the afternoon to iron and package more than 200 pillowcases. The pillowcases will be delivered to area hospitals and health care facilities.
“Indiana’s Electric Cooperatives’ Community Day provides an opportunity for us to amplify one of our seven cooperative principles: concern for community,” said Kurt Carver, chief exective officer. “Ryan’s Case for Smiles is an organization making a tremendous impact in our community and we are proud to be able to collaborate with them in this way.”
