Staff Report
WARSAW — A Mishawaka man was recently arrested after allegedly trying to use a fraudulent check to pay for merchandise at the Warsaw Menards.
Larry D. Peck Jr., 44, Mishawaka, is charged with forgery and attempting to commit theft where value of property is between $750 and $50,000, both level 6 felonies; possessing a false government identification, a class A misdemeanor; and false informing, a class B misdemeanor.
On Oct. 17, a Warsaw Police officer responded to a report of three people attempting to pass fraudulent checks at Menards. A store employee said one of the suspects, later identified as Peck, was still in the store.
According to court documents, Peck provided the officer with an Indiana BMV paper identification that falsely identified him.
A Menards employee said Peck was exhibiting nervous behavior when he attempted to pay with a check and provided a paper identification. Peck used a false name on the check, written in the amount of $963.59. The check also felt like plain printer paper.
Peck said he was attempting to pass a fraudulent check in order to obtain drugs.
Currently, no charges have been filed against the other two individuals allegedly involved in this incident.
Peck was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Oct. 17, with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
