Local Farmer Presented With “Spirit Of Farm Aid” Award
News Release
LAGRANGE — Local LaGrange Farmer, Greg Gunthorp, was presented with the “Spirit Of Farm Aid” Award at the 2023 Farm Aid musical festival in Noblesville in September.
The “Spirit Of Farm Aid” was presented for the first time back in 2017. The award is to acknowledge “those people who embody what Farm Aid stands for.”
“Was beyond humbled and honored this evening to receive the Spirit of Farm Aid farmer award at the pre concert festivities. Almost chocked me up in my acceptance comments.” Greg Gunthorp wrote on Facebook.
“Wow, where do I even start? I’m always proud of my husband and everything that he does to help other small farmers and processors, but to see his contributions be recognized by Farm Aid tonight was amazing! So much of what Greg does goes unnoticed, whether it be the tasks her performs to keep our business viable, the consulting he does with other small processors or the advocacy work he does to help to keep rural America relevant. It was great to see him surround by ‘his people’, people who understand the struggles and people who WANT to understand so they can help! It’s hard not to question ourselves about why we do what we do. There are easier ways to make a living. But nights like tonight make it all worthwhile!” Lei Gunthorp wrote on Facebook.
The Gunthorps own a family farm on 275 acres east of LaGrange where they raise pastured pigs, pastured poultry and grassfed lamb.
