Joyce A. Day
Joyce A. Day, 66, of rural Roann, went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly, surrounded by her family, at 9:42 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, at her residence.
Joyce was born on Feb. 1, 1957, in Wabash, to Luther and Marie (Becraft) Young. She was a 1975 graduate of Northfield High School. She married on May 12, 1979, in Urbana, to De Wayne Day; he survives.
She worked for Midwest Poultry Services for 38 years, retiring in August of 2023. She was the director of quality assurance for 34 years. She traveled to multiple states for Midwest Poultry Services to oversee many plants. Throughout her career, she attained many certificates in food service and was even named the Upper Wabash Vocational School Outstanding Student in 1974-1975.
She loved euchre and played up to three times each week. Joyce enjoyed baking; everyone loved her cookies, cakes and especially her peanut brittle. Together with her husband, they enjoyed camping, traveling all over the country and playing cards. In years past, she attended the Olive Branch Church of God. She traveled to numerous sporting events for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joyce would do anything for her family and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband, De Wayne Day, of Roann; daughter, Detre and husband Scott Jones, of Denver; son, William and wife Katie Day, of Rochester; grandchildren, Austin, Anthony, Alicia, Kaylyn, Howie, Liam and Arden; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Geraldine Friend, of North Manchester; and brother, Gerald Young, of Texas.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers; Alfred Young and Eugene Young.
The funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Kathy Nelson officiating.
The interment will follow in the Akron Cemetery, Akron.
Visitation hours will be held from 3-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
