LEGAL NOTICE
The Town of Mentone is applying for a construction grant funded by the Community Development Block Grant CARES Act (CDBG-CV) program, administered by the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) to improve the amenities in Mentzer Park. The intent of the project is in response to the impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure residents’ safety using the various amenities in the park to have proper social distancing and encourage living an active, healthy lifestyle. The Town of Mentone will hold its first public hearing on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 6:00 PM at 201 W. Main Street, Mentone, Indiana, to provide residents an opportunity to learn more about the need to apply for the grant and hear a presentation from the landscape architecture firm hired to design the improved Mentzer Park.
The Town is eligible to apply for up to $1 million in CDBG-CV program funds, but will be seeking federal assistance for $267,154, with an estimated project cost of $691,154 to construct a new pavilion, restrooms, and walking path. If awarded, approximately 56.5% of the grant award, $150,942.01, will be used to benefit low-to-moderate income individuals on an area wide basis.
The Town of Mentone is committing at least 30% of its allocated Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (ARPA) funds, approximately $205,250, and will be using the $200,000 received from the K21 Health Foundation and the $18,750 received from the Go Forward grant.
Interested residents are invited to provide comments regarding the park improvements either at the public hearing or by prior written statement. Accommodations for individuals with disabilities or with limited English proficiency can be requested at the contact information below. This project will result in the displacement of no individuals or businesses. Information concerning the proposed project may be obtained from:
