WARSAW — The Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District’s board approved fund transfers and discussed a ditch near the former Syracuse recycling drop-off site during a Nov. 21 meeting.

KCSWMD Executive Director Tom Ganser asked the district’s board for permission to move $100,000 from the district’s checking account to its investment. Doing so would bring the investment back to $1.4 million.

Ganser said overall, the district’s collected volume and cash flow are staying positive.

“We continue to see not only the positive trend with the landfill, but we’re better than we’ve been in the previous two years,” said Ganser.

The board approved moving $100,000 to the investment and also approved a resolution to transfer $2,700 from the district’s recycling services budget to three separate categories. This includes $600 to office supplies, $700 to meeting expenses, and $1,400 for building repairs.

In other business, Board Member Cary Groninger asked Ganser if Kosciusko County Surveyor Mike Kissinger had contacted him about a ditch near the former Syracuse recycling drop-off site.

Groninger said there’s a county ditch near the site, which is currently owned by the district, and that Kissinger was seeking a dump location for spoil.

Ganser said Kissinger had not contacted him, and Groninger said there was a possibility Kissinger found another location. If Kissinger contacts him, Ganser will reach out to Wawasee Community School Corporation to see if dumping spoil at that ditch would be a deal-breaker for the school corporation’s eventual purchase of the land.

The board also:

• Approved a salary ordinance for 2024 for the district’s employees.
• Approved the board’s meeting dates for 2024.
• Approved an interlocal agreement with the county auditor’s office for 2024.

The board’s next meeting is at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19.
