CLAYPOOL — Claypool Town Council approved the hiring of a part-time town marshal and two requests from residents regarding renovations to houses during a Nov. 21 meeting.
Paul Mullins was sworn in as town marshal, with a $25,000 salary. Mullins takes over for former Town Marshal Ben Sanders, who announced his resignation in August. At that time, Sanders said he would remain in his position until a new marshal was hired or until Jan. 1, 2024. However, shortly after submitting the letter, Sanders resigned from the position effective immediately.
Charles Baldridge and Bradley Prater attended the meeting to request letters from council to send to the Kosciusko County Board of Zoning Appeals. Baldridge is seeking to lift his residence at 204 W. Section St. by four feet in order for a new basement to be installed. All of Baldridge’s neighbors have approved the project. Baldridge said he eventually wants to build a wrap-around porch at the property as well.
Prater asked the council to send a letter to the BZA for permission to hook back up to the town’s water after rebuilding a property on Harrison Street. He said the BZA already approved the project and that he contacted Indiana American Water representatives, who told him to contact the council.
In other business, Clerk-Treasurer Pat Warner told residents Borden Waste-Away Services Inc. will start delivering totes for trash and recycling services during the week of Dec. 20. A welcome packet containing information on Borden’s services will be in residents’ mail soon.
Council Member Gene Warner also said he is working to see if Louis Dreyfus is willing to contribute funds toward grants the town is trying to get for their wastewater system. Warner is collaborating with KEDCO CEO Alan Tio, Kosciusko County Redevelopment Commission President Joni Truex, and Commonwealth Engineers Inc. Business Development Manager Chris Harrison on the matter.
Claypool Council’s next meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at the Claypool Lions Club building. The council will also have an executive session at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14.
