Atwood Otterbein Pastor To Start Advent Sermon Series
News Release
ATWOOD — Atwood Otterbein Church Pastor David Banning has wrapped up his Thanksgiving sermon series, “Our Hymn of Grateful Praise,” and will be beginning his Advent sermon series titled “Roots, Advent and the Family Story of Jesus.”
Regarding the new series, Banning said: “We all come from someone, somewhere and something — a people, a place and a story. We come from someone in our family line … parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and so many others from extensions of the root system from which we each descend. We come from somewhere as people are always physically located, and we live in times and places unique to us. Even as we move from place to place, we carry bits of our previous location with us in our hearts and memories. We come from something … a story that is uniquely, remarkably our own while that story is also uniquely tied to our family line throughout history … and is ultimately tied to God’s great love story with humanity.
“As we journey through this Advent season, let us consider our own family lines, homeland and heritage as well as that of our church family and of Jesus Christ, the head of our ultimate family so that we might grow the bonds of love and faith which connect us one to another and drive us to invite others into this eternal family.”
The congregation invites the public to join them this Christmas season to hear the entire series. Sunday morning service begins at 9:30. Come early for coffee and stay after the service for snacks and Bible study with Patsianne Harrold. The church is located at 306 E. Main St. in Atwood.
