News Release
LARWILL — The following Whitko Community Schools students are students of the month for December 2023.
Alayna Kreps
Whitko’s Senior High student of the month is Alayna Kreps, who is a senior.
Kreps is “motivated, inquisitive and hardworking,” said high school chemistry teacher Don Dyck.
Meredith Hindbaugh
Whitko Junior High’s student of the month is Meredith Hindbaugh.
Nominating teacher Mike Hanback said this about the eighth-grader: “Meredith is one of those young ladies who seems to enjoy learning. She always does her best and is willing to ask questions to better understand something. She never seems down or unhappy and has a smile which lights up her face and the classroom. I have never heard her say anything negative to anyone. She is a joy to have in the classroom.”
Lillian Coil
Whitko Career Academy’s student of the month is Lillian Coil.
Megan Anderson nominated the sophomore student. “Lillian always reports to class prepared and ready to learn,” said Anderson. “She is dedicated to her education and goes above and beyond on her assignments.
“Lillian is always prepared to help in class when needed and can be counted on to assist if other students need help. Lillian is always respectful and eager to learn. Students like Lillian, who have a desire to excel in and outside of the classroom, do not go unnoticed. Her motivation and ability to take student ownership by taking assignments to the next level is outstanding.”
Madelynn Abbott
South Whitley Elementary School’s student of the month is Madelynn Abbott.
Madelynn is a fourth-grader in Emily Duggins’ class. “Maddie is a wonderful student and always tries her best even when things get difficult,” Duggins said. “Maddie loves to read and asks to do so any chance she gets. Her warm smile always lights up the room, but above all, my favorite thing about Maddie is how she makes others feel. There is never a time when she doesn’t make others around her feel loved and valued. I feel I am a better teacher and person because Maddie is in my class.”
Bridget Rodgers
Pierceton Elementary School’s student of the month is Bridget Rodgers.
“Bridget is a great role model in our classroom,” said Bridget’s second- grade teacher, Madison Moss. “She is always working hard, following directions, completing her work and is a kind friend to all. I can always count on her to be doing the right thing. She shows up to class every day with a smile on her face and has a true love for learning.”
Clay Jenkins
Whitko Early Learning Center’s student of the month is Clay Jenkins.
“Clay has made huge strides since he first started coming to school,” said nominating teacher Jennifer Dahms. “When he first started, he was very reserved and did not interact much with the other children. He now plays and interacts with other children and is always happy to do anything that involves a group setting. He is a good friend and helper to his peers and teacher. He is always kind and willing to help with anything. It has been a pleasure to watch him grow and see the positive changes in him and see the sweet and silly side he has.”
