PIERCETON — The Pierceton Town Council, Washington Township Trustee, and Washington Township Board all approved the township taking over the town’s monies for providing fire service during a Dec. 21 meeting.
Those in attendance at the meeting included the council’s current and incoming members; Pierceton Clerk-Treasurer Myra Mast; Washington Township Trustee Dean Rhoades; incoming Pierceton Fire Chief Nathan Rhoades; Washington Township Board members; Tammy Keirn and Andrew Grossnickle, attorneys for the Town of Pierceton and Washington Township, respectively; and Paige Sansone with Baker Tilly, who attended the meeting virtually.
Keirn said the town would need to pass an ordinance declaring Washington Township can provide fire service without a contract for 2024. However, the town cannot pass that ordinance until after Jan. 1, but it must be passed before July 1.
Council and the township board approved letting Keirn and Grossnickle prepare resolutions to move forward with the township taking over the town’s monies for fire service.
Pierceton Council will hold a year-end meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at the Pierceton Community Building.
