WARSAW — A Warsaw woman was recently arrested for allegedly using a mallet to batter a woman multiple times.
Carrie A. Harrell, 40, 5806 S. Maple Grove Lane, Warsaw, is charged with burglary with a deadly weapon, a level 2 felony; criminal confinement while armed with a deadly weapon, a level 3 felony; battery with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; and battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a level 6 felony.
On Jan. 7, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a battery incident in the area of Sellers Lake. In a 911 call, a woman could be heard screaming, “Help, don’t kill me.”
According to court documents, upon arrival at the scene, deputies saw a woman with blood all around her head, neck, clothes, hair, and hands. She said the suspect, later identified as Harrell, ran into a nearby residence.
A relative of Harrell’s said Harrell walked around the home, made some alarming statements, and left the house. When Harrell returned, she smashed kitchen plates on the floor and went into a back room. Deputies found Harrell on a bed with blood on her hands, leg, and clothes.
Prior to the incident, the woman said Harrell approached her home and wanted to come inside. When she was told no, Harrell became upset and entered the home. Harrell allegedly opened the woman’s bedroom door with a mallet hammer by her side and jumped on the woman.
Harrell hit the back of the woman’s head several times with the mallet. At one point, when the woman attempted to leave, Harrell grabbed the woman by her hair, pulled her back into the home, and hit her with the mallet again.
A witness heard the woman scream and ran over to her residence. He saw Harrell hit the woman in the head several times and he physically pulled Harrell off the woman.
A deputy spoke with the woman at a hospital. The deputy noticed at least three lacerations on the back and side of the woman’s head. The woman said she feared for her life and thought she would die during the incident.
Law enforcement found a black mallet with a wooden handle near the scene.
Harrell refused to talk with law enforcement about the incident.
Harrell was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Jan. 7, with a $50,250 surety and cash bond.
