JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Ever wonder what state of health Indiana is in?

There may be different ways to answer that question, and one of the latest is a ranking done by Forbes Advisor.

The ranking of 50 states from least healthy to most healthy showed that Hoosiers are near the top of the list for least healthy at No. 10.

The ranking was published on the Forbes Advisor website Jan. 8.

The Forbes platform, which tries to steer consumers toward sound financial decisions, compared all 50 states for disease risk factors and prevalence, substance abuse, lifestyle habits and health outlook. According to the website, a team at Forbes analyzed 21 metrics from two government databases and one nonprofit agency to create the report.

What kind of company do Hoosiers keep? The top 10 least healthy states — from the worst to somewhat better — in order were: West Virginia, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, Alabama, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Ohio and Indiana.

On the other end of the spectrum, paradise appears to have its benefits: Hawaii was ranked as the healthiest state.
