WARSAW — An Etna Green man received a four-year sentence after an online group which works to expose child predators caught him planning to engage in sexual activity with a child.
William Gerrard Frederick, 53, 6692 N. 800W, Etna Green, was charged with child solicitation, a level 5 felony.
Frederick was sentenced in Kosciusko Superior Court One on Thursday, Jan. 18.
For child solicitation, Kosciusko Superior Court One Judge Karin McGrath sentenced Frederick to four years in the Indiana Department of Correction, with one year executed and three years suspended on probation. Frederick has 251 days of jail time credit.
Frederick must register as a sex offender and is required to undergo therapy. As a specific term of his probation, Frederick is not allowed to have access to the Internet.
At sentencing, Deputy Prosecutor Joseph Sobek said Frederick’s plea agreement was the result of many discussions surrounding the evidence in the case.
McGrath noted Frederick’s criminal history, which includes two prior convictions for child molesting. She described the messages Frederick sent to the decoy as “thoroughly disturbing and inappropriate.”
On May 6, 2023, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a report of unwanted individuals at a residence in Etna Green. The deputy met with a Bikers Against Predators representative, who said Frederick was posing as a 17-year-old teenager and messaged a decoy Frederick believed to be an underage girl.
According to court documents, Frederick repeatedly asked the decoy for nude pictures and described sexual acts they would engage in together.
