Shipshewana To Host Annual Ice Festival And Chili Cook-Off This Weekend

SHIPSHEWANA — Shipshewana will be hosting its annual Ice Festival and chili cook-off this weekend, Friday, Jan. 19 and Saturday, Jan. 20. New this year is the addition of the Icy and Spicy Wing Competition. Plan to bundle up and get out of the house for some cool family fun.
Here is the official schedule:
Friday, Jan. 19:
10 a.m. Ice carvers begin creating their designs for the Saturday competition. Walk the downtown and enjoy the evolution from ice block to art. Ice carvings will also be created in front of Yoder’s Shipshewana Hardware, the Shipshewana Visitor’s Center, Farmstead Inn and eight more businesses along SR 5. Try to see them all!
4 p.m. The Icy and Spicy Wing Competition begins at Smokehouse Grills & Supply, 240 N. Morton St. $10 for 8 chicken wings or an Ice Festival Pin lets you sample all the different sauces and cast your vote. But come early! When the wings and sauces are gone, that’s it!
7 p.m. The winner of the Icy and Spicy Wing Competition is announced. Davis Mercantile, 225 N. Harrison St. and other Harrison Street shops will have extended hours until 8 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 20:
11 a.m. The chili cook-off begins at Smokehouse Grills & Supply. $10 or an Ice Festival Pin lets you sample all of the various chilis and cast your vote. But come early! When the chilis are gone, the competition and tasting are done.
4 p.m. The ice carving competition ends and the winners are named at the Davis Mercantile parking area.
Ice Festival Pin
An Ice Festival Pin will get you the Icy and Spicy Wing Competition tasting, the chili cook-off tasting plus access to over 35 store specials valued at $200. Deals are valid throughout January 2024. The cost of the pin is $15. Pins can be purchased at the following Shipshewana location:

- Kid’s Kreations, 150 N. Harrison St.
