McMillan Arrested For Allegedly Battering Three Police Officers
Staff Report
SYRACUSE — A Claypool woman was recently arrested for allegedly battering three police officers and resisting arrest.
Sophia Elizabeth McMillan, 29, 102 S. Main St. Apartment 1, Claypool, is charged with three counts of battery to a public safety official, all level 6 felonies; resisting law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor; and criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor.
On Dec. 17, 2023, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office received a report about McMillan calling 911 four times and hanging up while only saying she needed someone. The county’s 911 dispatch center also received a different call about McMillan banging on a residence’s door in Syracuse.
According to court documents, McMillan was displaying involuntary body movements upon deputies’ arrival. At one point, McMillan ran toward a moving vehicle and was nearly hit. She then ran down the road, away from law enforcement.
Deputies found McMillan laying in a yard. She attempted to flee on foot. A struggle ensued, with McMillan pulling her hands away from law enforcement multiple times. While she was being detained, McMillan bit one of the deputy’s knees. She also allegedly forced herself out of a patrol vehicle and ended up on the ground.
As she was sitting on the ground, McMillan demanded water. During her second drink of water, McMillan spit the water at one of the responding deputies. McMillan continued resisting arrest and refusing to be placed in a patrol vehicle.
While a Syracuse Police officer placed a seat belt on her, McMillan bit the officer two times. McMillan was then taken to a local hospital.
During the altercation, McMillan damaged a KCSO patrol vehicle by pulling off its rubber weather guard.
McMillan was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Feb. 6, 2024, with a $6,000 surety and cash bond.
