WARSAW — The Warsaw Community Public Library Board of Trustees approved two sets of minutes and discussed a story walk project during a Feb. 12 meeting.
Trustee President Chris Merrill presented the meetings from the regular January meeting and a financial meeting. Both were approved unanimously.
Director Heather Barron reported that Jim Price, the library’s new maintenance director, celebrated one month at the library. Price helped the library set up new office spaces and scheduled the elevator’s service.
“He is proactive, he is very fast,” Barron said. “He’s gotten quite a bit done.”
Several employees are transitioning to new positions. Sarah Neal, Barron reported, is now the library’s full time communication manager.
“We have two new positions we’re going to be advertising in the next couple of weeks,” Barron said. “The teen/tween coordinator, and we are adding on a new position of a bilingual services specialist, which we’re really excited about.”
The board approved a new dress code the staff contributed to.
Barron announced that the library opened two additional study rooms. There are now three on the main floor and one upstairs.
Barron shared an update on the WCPL’s project with the Friends of the Warsaw Community Public Library and Parks Department to develop a story walk. Children would be able to read a story book in a park on 18-20 kiosk stands, with two pages per stand.
The parks department gave an initial approval and Barron said she has some ideas for who to reach out to for funding.
“It’s everything, it’s movement, it’s nature, it’s family, it’s early literacy, everything,” Barron said.
The board also discussed hosting an event during the upcoming eclipse at 3 p.m. Monday, April 8. The board watched a presentation from eclipse2024.org showing what it will look like in Warsaw.
WCPL’s Board of Trustee’s will meet next Monday at 4 p.m. Monday, March 11.
